How To Figure Out Which Is The Healthiest Dog Food?

One of the best ways to learn more about the different diets available and what is ideal for your dog is by taking an online vet consultation. They will be able to provide you with the best advice as to which dog food will meet the needs of your dog.

How to figure out which is the healthiest dog food?

The diet of your dog should be based on four things: age, ideal weight, activity level, and health condition(if they have any). However, for all dogs, there are some standard things that you should look out for, like:

Go through the label

Several dog food manufacturers label ingredients in descending order. Often, the first ingredient on the list is the one that has the highest proportion. So as a rule of thumb, you want the first ingredient to be animal protein. Be on the lookout for labels that have loads of ingredients.

Animal Protein

Ideally, you should go ahead with dog food that is high in protein from meat. Opt for options such as chicken, beef, turkey and other protein sources. This is because protein provides essential amino acids and every protein source varies in its availability, such as how easily it can be broken down and the amino acid that your dog should consume.

Make sure to do your research on different dog food brands

After thorough research and nit-picking, you are finally down to one brand of food that you think your dog will immensely enjoy. It is of equal importance that you do the same amount of study on the manufacturer in order to ensure quality control and appropriate sourcing of ingredients.

Now let us talk about the healthiest dog food options for puppies

Puppy food is formulated keeping in mind the growth of dogs and the ingredients in it are double the daily nutritional requirements of a senior dog. This is because our little puppies need more protein than adults to help them grow.

The healthiest dog food option for puppies consists of a higher level of proteins and some additional vitamins which are not typically found in senior dog food. It is considered best to feed them an all-dry diet or a diet that mostly comprises dry kibble. The reason behind this is that dry food is more calorie-dense and has a higher level of protein when compared to wet foods.

Healthiest dog food options for adult dogs

For healthy and active dogs, the primary thing that should be taken care of is that they absorb all the vitamins and minerals necessary and have a balanced diet. The calorie requirement changes depending on your dog’s age and how active they are. For more guidance, book a vet consultation through Supertails. They will tell you the exact amount of calories your dog should consume and make sure that you are not overfeeding.

Conclusion

It is of paramount importance that you remember that all dogs are individuals and it is completely fine that sometimes you may struggle in the beginning to find the best dog food. But, once you do find the ideal diet plan and brand, your dog will be quite happy with eating the same thing every day until their needs change after a point in time.

SpaceX scrubs Falcon I rocket launch

Monday, November 28, 2005

SpaceX called off the much-delayed inaugural launch of their new Falcon 1 rocket on Saturday from Kwajalein’s Omelek Island launch site. The intent was to launch the U.S. Air Force Academy’s FalconSat 2 satellite, which will monitor plasma interactions with the Earth’s upper atmosphere and magnetosphere.

The launch was delayed, then finally cancelled after an oxygen boil-off vent had accidentally been left open. The oxygen was unable to cool the helium pressurant, which then proceeded to evaporate faster than it could be replenished. A main computer issue, probably serious enough to cause a scrub on its own, was also discovered.

This long-anticipated flight was originally expected to be launched in January 2005, however a series of setbacks forced a series of delays, with the flight most recently scheduled to be in early 2006. It was intended to be launched from the Kwajalein atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The maiden voyage was originally intended to launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California with a Naval Research Laboratory satellite and a Space Services Incorporated space burial payload.

Looted, possibly contaminated body parts transplanted into USA, Canadian patients

Monday, March 20, 2006

Fears of contaminated bone and skin grafts are being felt by unsuspecting patients following the revelation that funeral homes may have been looting corpses.

Janet Evans of Marion Ohio was told by her surgeon, “The bone grafts you got might have been contaminated”. She reacted with shock, “I was flabbergasted because I didn’t even know what he was talking about. I didn’t know I got a bone graft until I got this call. I just thought they put in screws and rods.”

The body of Alistair Cooke, the former host of “Masterpiece Theatre,” was supposedly looted along with more than 1,000 others, according to two law enforcement officials close to the case. The tissue taken was typically skin, bone and tendon, which was then sold for use in procedures such as dental implants and hip replacements. According to authorities, millions of dollars were made by selling the body parts to companies for use in operations done at hospitals and clinics in the United States and Canada.

A New Jersey company, Biomedical Tissue Services, has reportedly been taking body parts from funeral homes across Brooklyn, New York. According to ABC News, they set up rooms like a “surgical suite.” After they took the bones, they replaced them with PVC pipe. This was purportedly done by stealth, without approval of the deceased person or the next of kin. 1,077 bodies were involved, say prosecuters.

Investagators say a former dentist, Michael Mastromarino, is behind the operation. Biomedical was considered one of the “hottest procurement companies in the country,” raking in close to $5 million. Eventually, people became worried: “Can the donors be trusted?” A tissue processing company called LifeCell answered no, and issued a recall on all their tissue.

Cooke’s daughter, Susan Cooke Kittredge, said, “To know his bones were sold was one thing, but to see him standing truncated before me is another entirely.” Now thousands of people around the country are receiving letters warning that they should be tested for infectious diseases like HIV or hepatitis. On February 23, the Brooklyn District Attorney indicted Mastromarino and three others. They are charged with 122 felony counts, including forgery and bodysnatching.

Colleges offering admission to displaced New Orleans students/AL-KY

See the discussion page for instructions on adding schools to this list and for an alphabetically arranged listing of schools.

Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.

The Advantages Of Automotive Fuel Injection Systems Vs Carburetors

By Kirk I Inkster

Although fuel injection has been around for many years, the advent of electronic fuel injection with the wonders of all the little computerized modules in our automobiles finally brought the era of the automobile carburetor to its virtual end of the road.

It can be said that fuel injections advantages over the older carburetor fuel injection systems that were the mainstay years ago in most gasoline powered vehicles on the roads and highways of the USA & Canada. The advantages of fuel injection powered systems over carburetor ones include easier cold starting – is a godsend of reliability in northern states of the USA and up north in Canada. Add better performance, more precise control over fuel mixtures resulting in better and more economical fuel economy and as a final touch reduced emissions. Fuel injection systems also eliminate the need for automotive components such as the choke, accelerator pump and idle stop solenoid. With so much in its favor its not surprising that fuel injection fuel systems have taken over the road when it comes to fuel systems in new cars and trucks on the road today.

The main difference between a carburetor and fuel injection is that the fuel is drawn into the engine by vacuum in a carburetor system whereas with fuel injection it is sprayed or injected into the engine under pressure. When air passes down the narrow part of a carburetors throat (called the venture), it creates a difference in pressure between the air in the venture and in the carburetor fuel bowl. The difference in pressure draws the fuel through the carburetors main jets and metering passages and into the venture where it mixes with air and passes into the intake manifold of the gasoline engine.

With fuel injection, fuel metering is not dependent on differences in air pressure. Fuel is sprayed into the incoming air stream, creating a much finer mist that promotes better fuel atomization and mixing. The amount of fuel that is injected depends only on the volume of the air entering the engine and engine load and loads. This is where the electronic part and parts come in because basically it took until the advent of small portable electronic components -essentially a computer and computerization. Various electronic engine sensors to calculate how much fuel is needed to maintain the correct fuel / oil mixture.

Lastly in order to function properly all of the engine sensors must be working and feeding correct information to the computer. If as a driver you note the check engine light appear- it may well be that the system has determined that one of the sensors in not working properly and must be attended by properly trained and certified technicians.

Sadly in this day and age often its a tactic or easy fix simply to check the codes and in effect turn the alerts off. As a motorist you might think that everything is fine in your vehicle. However it may simply be the case that your codes have been reset the alert system has been turned mute and your fuel injection system sensors need checking, testing and perhaps replacement.

Woman killed on amusement park ride in New York

Sunday, July 1, 2007

A young woman was killed Friday night after an accident occurred on a gyrating ride at the Playland amusement park in Rye, New York in the United States. The woman, Gabriela Garin, was a worker at the amusement park, and had worked there for the past seven years.

The accident occurred near the end of Garin’s shift; as she was loading riders onto the ride. The ride’s new operator, unaware of Garin’s presence, started the ride while Garin was still on it. The new operator then noticed Garin, and shut the ride down in 20 seconds, but Garin had already been ejected from the ride and killed, according to a park spokesperson.

The ride is an attraction that spins people around in two-seat cars, inside a darkened tent to flashing lights and music.

This incident is not the first in the ride’s history. In 2004, a seven-year-old from Connecticut managed to free herself from the ride’s restraining bars, and climb onto the front edge of her seat. She fell soon after the ride started. A safety precaution was put in place after this incident, however, the spokesperson acknowledged that it was not followed when Garin was killed.

The company which owns the ride shut it down, along with two other rides it owns at the park.

This is the fourth fatality in the park’s history. The park features more than 50 rides, a pool, and a beach. It attracts more than 1 million visitors annually.

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Sunday, August 21, 2005

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.

Teräsbetoni frontman J. Ahola on representing Finland at Eurovision 2008 & more

Sunday, April 13, 2008

This article is a featured article. It is considered one of the best works of the Wikinews community. See Wikinews:Featured articles for more information.

Teräsbetoni means “steel-reinforced concrete”, and is also the name of a Finnish heavy metal band formed in 2002. Their music, which centres on an honourable warrior lifestyle or on metal itself, quickly became popular in 2003 on the Internet, resulting in a petition by fans being sent to several record labels demanding a recording deal. In late 2004 the band signed to Warner Music Finland, and the following year debut single Taivas lyö tulta rose to number one in the Finnish charts, and debut album Metallitotuus hit number two and went platinum, and has now sold about 47,000 copies.

The band, who sing exclusively in Finnish, have just released their third album, Myrskyntuoja. The lead single on this album is Missä miehet ratsastaa, which Teräsbetoni decided to enter in the Finnish selections for the 2008 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, where it was selected to go on to the semi-final in Belgrade, Serbia as Finland’s representative this year. Although Finland has seen limited success in the contest, their only victory was with a comparable group. In 2006 hard rock band Lordi – whose monster costumes and pyrotechnic displays are famed – achieved a record 292 points in the final with Hard Rock Hallelujah.

Teräsbetoni’s frontman, vocalist and bass guitarist Jarkko Ahola’s fame extends beyond the band he heads. He also features in Finnish symphonic power metal cover supergroup Northern Kings, alongside Marco Hietala of Nightwish and Tarot, Tony Kakko of Sonata Arctica and Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto of Charon.

Wikinews was able to conduct an exclusive interview with Jarkko Ahola to discuss these various achievements. This interview is now published below for the first time.

Payroll Services: Benefits Of Outsourcing The Task

Payroll services are an alternative to “in house” accounting options in regards to issuing paychecks to employees of a company. In today’s economic climate, where many companies are struggling to pay their bills, this may seem like a luxurious frill. If owners take a closer look, they may see that contracting out your payroll services might actually save them money. Here are some things to think about:- Priorities: The owner of a small business has to take on many roles in order to keep their business’ head above water. One priority is making sure that customers are getting the best product or service for their hard earned dollars. A high quality product or service is what builds reputation. One round of shoddiness can hurt years of building one’s reputation. Word-of-mouth referrals are worth their weight in gold. If customers have unkind things to say about one’s business due to an unsatisfactory experience, this can truly be a crushing blow. Priority number one should be customer satisfaction.- Employee retention: In order to keep a stable crew of competent employees, it’s also a manager’s priority to keep workers happy. One way to do this is with prompt and accurate payroll accounting. There’s nothing worse for employee morale than late paychecks, inaccurate accounting, or the worst of the worst: bounced checks. One bounced pay check and there will be a slew of employees sending out their resumes to other businesses. Having to rehire staff is time consuming and pricey. Keeping the workers smiling and productive is imperative.- Time Management: There are barely enough hours in the day for a small biz owner to get everything done. Anyone who begins his or her own company will laugh at the concept of being one’s own boss as being an avenue to flexibility or more free time. Instead, from waking till going to bed at night, the “boss hat” is often worn. In order to manage one’s time effectively, delegating duties is imperative. Payroll services specialize in getting those checks written accurately as well as making certain taxes are correctly taken out each cycle. Delegating this duty to a service can be a relief to an individual trying to run a company.- Taxes: There are lots of tax payments to be completed each month, quarter and fiscal year. Deducting the proper withholding tax amounts from each employee’s check, paying quarterly or annual state and federal amounts, filing taxes and generating W-2 or W-4 forms in a timely manner are all responsibilities that must be carried out accurately. Any mistakes concerning the I.R.S. will cost even more money. Accurately handling tax paperwork can be a headache for a person who isn’t an accountant. Many entrepreneurs are creative types and should leave the bookkeeping to those who crunch numbers for a living. If business owners want to devote themselves to their company’s growth, it would be wise to leave energy sapping duties such as paychecks and taxes to someone else. Payroll services often have a variety of packages to choose from such as weekly, bi-weekly or monthly checks, computerized time keeping, tax preparation and more.

Miami of Ohio and Boston College advance to 2010 NCAA men’s ice hockey Frozen Four

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Obviously it was an unbelievable feeling

Miami of Ohio beat the Michigan Wolverines 3–2 at the finals of the NCAA Midwest regional ice hockey tournament Sunday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Miami sophomore forward Alden Hirschfeld scored at 1:54 into the second overtime when his shot from the top of the left face off circle deflected into the goal off the skate of the Michigan goaltender Shawn Hunwick.

Pat Cannone led the scoring with two power play goals for Miami during regulation. It looked as though Michigan had won the game in the first overtime when Michigan’s forward Kevin Lynch appeared to score. Unfortunately for Michigan the referee blew the whistle calling a penalty just before the puck went in the net. The Miami goaltender Connor Knapp who made 53 saves in the game was named the most outstanding player of the midwest regional tournament.

This was the first multiple overtime game for the Miami of Ohio RedHawks in their 23 years. Miami will be going to the Frozen Four for the second straight year.

It was great to see all those hats on the ice

The Boston College Eagles advanced to the Frozen Four in a shoot out with the Yale Bulldogs. BC defeated Yale 9–7 last night at the finals of the NorthEast regionals in front of 6,054 fans at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

BC forward Cam Atkinson had a hat trick and an assist. Mark Arcobello of Yale also had a hat trick. In an attempt to find a way to stop the Eagles scoring Yale played three different goalies during the game. The sixteen total goals is a NCAA record for a regional tournament game. The previous record was thirteen.

This will be the 22nd time that Boston College has made it to the Frozen Four, it is the ninth for coach Jerry York and their third trip in the past four seasons. BC will face Miami of Ohio in the semifinals on April 8 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.
