Create Your Own Outdoor Nature Retreat

By Jessica Ackerman

At the end of a busy day, it can be a real treat to take refuge in your own personal sanctuary space. Although you can essentially create this kind of personal space almost anywhere in your home, the great outdoors is a favorite spot for many people. There’s just something about the beauty of nature and the solitude of the great outdoors that can really help soothe the soul and wipe away the stress caused by everyday living. If you’d like to transform an area of your deck, outdoor patio or even yard into a relaxing nature retreat, here are some decorating tips that can help.

Why Outdoors?

When creating a personal sanctuary space, many people look for areas within their home. Although an indoor sanctuary space can certainly be handy, there’s just something about being outdoors that tends to rejuvenate the spirit. Even if you have already carved out a niche of personal space somewhere inside your home, it can be well worth your time and efforts to create an outdoor space as well. The next time the sun is shining brightly or there’s an absolutely spectacular sunset or rainbow to enjoy, you’ll certainly be glad that you did.

“Must-Have” Features

When creating an outdoor nature retreat, keep in mind that your idea of an idea space may vary greatly from the ideas of another person. What one person finds to be beautiful and relaxing might not hold a great deal of appeal for somebody else. When designing your outdoor nature retreat, pay particular attention to things that you personally enjoy. Never feel pressured to add features just because they are “in style” or “trendy.” For example, if the idea of a small waterfall appeals to you, then by all means find a way of working one into your area’s landscape. If you’ve always wanted a backyard hammock, now is the time to get one. By adding your own personal “must-have” features to your outdoor nature retreat, you’re sure to get far more enjoyment out of it.

Adding a Decorative Touch

Although Mother Nature is certainly beautiful all by herself, this doesn’t mean you can’t also add a few decorative touches of your own. When decorating outdoor spaces, it’s important to keep weather conditions in mind. If you live in an area that has cold winter weather, you’ll either want to choose freeze-tolerant decor or plan to take your pieces inside when the bad weather arrives. Fortunately, outdoor wall dcor is usually designed with outside weather conditions in mind. You’ll find attractive pieces in a wide variety of themes, colors, textures and sizes. Simply choose a piece that complements the look of your outdoor space and satisfies your personal tastes and preferences.

Add Natural Colors

Color is another important tool to use when designing any living space. Although nature is resplendent with color, you can also add a few touches of your own. Whether you choose to complement the colors of nature or wish to create an interesting visual contrast, look for ways to accentuate the look of your outdoor nature retreat with a few colorful splashes.

Retired U.S. vets sue Donald Rumsfeld for excessive service cutbacks

Tuesday, May 31, 2005

One thousand residents of the Defense Department-managed Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C. filed a class-action lawsuit on May 24, asserting that the cut-backs in medical and dental services imposed by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld are illegal. The operating budget for the home was reduced from $63 million in 2004 to $58 million for 2005. The residents cite cuts in on-site X-ray, electrocardiogram, physical and dental services, and the closing of the home’s main clinic and an on-site pharmacy.

Chief Financial Officer Steve McManus responded that the changes not only save money but also achieved improved efficiencies. “We’re really trying to improve the benefits to our residents,” he said.

Most of the home’s costs are paid for by a trust fund and monthly fees paid by residents. By law, the Armed Forces Retirement Homes are required to fund, “on-site primary care, medical care and a continuum of long-term care services.”

California releases search warrant for Wells Fargo bank on identity theft

Saturday, October 22, 2016

The California Department of Justice on Wednesday released the warrant and affidavit of a criminal investigation of the Wells Fargo bank. The State of California served the warrant on October 5 to search the San Francisco headquarters of Wells Fargo for felonious activities related to identity theft.

The warrant said property to be seized at the bank’s San Francisco headquarters was related to the unauthorized creation of accounts by Wells Fargo employees including the names of individuals for the accounts; account information and fees; the names of employees and their managers who created accounts without the consent of the Wells Fargo customers in question; and all communications including emails referencing the unauthorised accounts.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris’s criminal probe is part of an increasing list of officials nationwide questioning the business practices of Wells Fargo such as California State Treasurer John Chiang who announced a one-year suspension of State investment with the bank on September 28; Illinois State Treasurer Mike Frerichs followed suit with a year-long ban on October 3; and Democratic United States Senators Bob Menendez of New Jersey, Jeff Merkley of Oregon, and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who wrote to the U.S. Security Exchanges Commission (SEC) suggesting investigation on September 29.

‘Invitational Games for the Deaf, Taipei 2008’ Day 2 features martial art events

Sunday, September 7, 2008

The ‘Invitational Games for the Deaf, Taipei 2008’ started yesterday in Taipei, Taiwan. After table tennis and soccer, events from martial arts including karate, judo, and taekwondo were featured mainly in the 2nd matchday. Unlike the taekwondo event which applied a single elimination rule, events from karate and judo applied round robin rules in their competitions.

Athletes from 7 nations including Argentina, Chinese Taipei (the host), Greece, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, and the United States were among the main participants this event. As of the most recent lead check, European and American athletes threatened athletes from East Asians with what appeared to be a greater strength.

Guler Muhammed from Turkey accomplished a new record to win his gold medal in Men’s 58kg class. But European and American spectators were witnesses to the performance from the host after Bo-cong Lin and Szu-jou Lu won gold medals from “Men’s 58kg to 68kg” and “Women’s 49kg to 57kg” classes.

The karate event distinguishes classes with different weights, men’s are under 65kg, under 75kg, and over 75kg; women’s just differed with classes at 60kg.

Juan Matias Diaz from Argentina shone in the battlefield with a 3rd-straight-win, to win his gold medal in Men’s under 65kg class; but in Men’s under 65kg class, Russian athlete Evgeniy Pavlyuchenko had to give up, and Takahiro Kojima won his gold medal by defeating his teammate Akinobe Miyashita.

In judo, it was the first time ever that two athletes both won bronze medals in the same class since this invitation games began yesterday. In the men’s under 60kg (class), Akio Kira made a 4th-straight-win to win the gold medal, his teammate, Tomohiro Higashi won bronze medal with local athlete Wei-lun Hsu having the same scores in this class. Jinsub Byeon from South Korea, Sergey Belyaev from Russia, and Susana Monteggia from Argentina, won their gold medals in men’s 60.1kg to 66kg, men’s 66.1kg to 73kg, and women’s 57.1kg to 70kg classes.

Blast kills seven in China

Tuesday, December 7, 2010

Seven people were killed and 37 were injured Saturday night at an Internet cafe in the southwest region of China’s Guizhou province, after the explosion of chemicals being stored illegally at a chemical shop.

Chinese state media reported that sodium nitrate, aluminum chloride, and other chemicals were being kept in a nearby chemical shop and exploded at about 11:05 pm local time (1505 UTC), causing the Internet cafe to catch on fire. It is unknown how the chemicals ignited.

Forty five people were in the cafe when the explosion occurred. Six people died on the scene while one woman suffered major burns and later died in hospital. One person escaped without injury.

The police detained the owner of the chemical shop for “illegal possession of chemicals” according to state media. The cafe manager and boss were also placed in police custody for questioning.

Xinhua reports that one of the bodies was that of a child. Children under the age of eighteen are not allowed in Internet cafes under Chinese law.

According to Li Feiyue of the Qiandongnan Miao-Dong Autonomous Prefecture, “The location and environment of the Internet cafe is not safe. We will find out who approved its operation and who was in charge of safety supervision. They will be held responsible.”

Residential buildings in the area also suffered damaged.

3 Reasons To Choose Mausoleum Services Instead Of Burial

byadmin

When it comes to considering your funeral someday, many already know exactly what they want in terms of a burial. There are so many options available to those who can stomach it. One idea that is coming back into popularity from ancient rituals is the idea of Mausoleum Services, or virtually being mummified in an above-ground tomb. Here are a few reasons to consider choosing a mausoleum.

It is a Type of Preservation

If you are interested in a unique way to be buried, this is certainly for you. By being buried in an encapsulated above-ground casket, the deterioration process cannot really take place. In turn, this actually begins a type of mummification, the preservation process on your body. Many people go for this option for the possibility of being used in scientific experiments in the future.

It Can Be Cheaper

Mausoleum Services are sometimes complicated, but, for the most part, can sometimes be cheaper. Because the casket does not have to be sealed in the same way that an underground casket does, it can essentially knock a few dollars off of your burial fee. Depending on the time of year and the circumstances, you can be sure to get a fairly inexpensive burial with a mausoleum.

It Does Not Need Maintenance

With a gravesite underground, your loved ones consistently have to maintain your plot. Weeds and things may grow and even the tombstone is not always weather-proof. With a mausoleum, you eliminate the maintenance work for your loved ones and put yourself in a grave that needs none at all. This can keep them from having to go back regularly, reliving the pain of losing you once again.

As you can see, there are many benefits to this unique form of burial. Not only will you stand out from everyone else, but it can also be cheaper and does not require as much maintenance to your gravesite. If you are planning your funeral and are looking for a cheap and unique way to be buried, consider a mausoleum as your first option. Times Square bomb suspects arrested in Pakistan

Saturday, May 22, 2010

At least six suspects, wanted in connection with a failed car bomb attempt in Times Square, New York City on May 1, have been arrested by authorities in Pakistan. The arrests follow a visit to Pakistan by two high-ranking American security officials—US National Security Adviser Gen James Jones and Leon Panetta, director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), both of whom praised Pakistan for its efforts in tracking down suspects in the bomb attack.

Amongst those arrested are the co-owner of a large company which provides catering to several embassies in Pakistan and a major in the Pakistani Army, though the Army released a statement denying any involvment. Some are believed to have been educated in the United States. A notice on the website of the US embassy in Islamabad reported that the catering company co-owned by one of the suspects had links to terrorism and has since advised US citizens against using the firm.

Those arrested are believed to have had links with Faisal Shahzad, the primary suspect in the bombing, who was arrested on May 3 on board an aircraft at New York’s JFK Airport.

One source told Reuters: “We are investigating whether Ashraf has provided any financial support to Faisal because Ashraf and his father are rich people and they run a very big catering business” though another stated that “[t]hey may be innocent because being friends does not mean you are involved in the activities of your friends”.

The suspects are currently being detained by the Pakistani security services, who are known to have close links with the CIA, to the extent of allowing CIA officials access to prisoners.

Discover How A Stockbridge Ga Chiropractic Office Helps Peripheral Neuropathy}

Submitted by: Princess Cruz

Approximately 20 million people in the US have some type of peripheral neuropathy, which is a condition resulting from damage to the peripheral nervous system, the network that carries data between the spinal cord and brain (also known as the central nervous system) and all other parts of your body.

Symptoms can be tingling or numbness, muscle weakness, or paresthesia, which is a pricking sensation. Damaged nerves can cause sweating, sexual dysfunction, digestion problems, and urination issues.

One of the commonest forms of peripheral neuropathy is diabetic neuropathy, which can cause nerve damage in an ascending pattern. Symmetrical numbness and pain can be felt first in both feet, and then will gradually travel up both legs. The last nerve fibers to be affected are arms, hands, and fingers.

Other common causes of peripheral neuropathy are genetic abnormalities, anemia, impaired kidney or liver function, nerve compression due to stenosis or disc protrusion, thyroid imbalance, chemotherapy, or the use of statin drugs.

What can a Stockbridge Georgia Chiropractic office do to help your peripheral neuropathy?

Chiropractic doctors first will identify your pain’s cause. Early chiropractic care may reduce the severity of sensory and motor nerve damage, and at the same time give patients an option to try a drug-free, non-surgical approach to their disease.

Chiropractic care combined with physical rehabilitation and massage therapy can help address postural misalignment, muscle tone imbalance, and abnormal movement patterns which often accompany compression syndromes or nerve entrapment

A Stockbridge Georgia Chiropractic doctor has a treatment goal of creating an environment where nerves can regenerate. Nerves have to be used to remain functioning well. Therapies that have been found useful for neuropathy include infrared therapy, whole body vibration therapy, high dose laser therapy, functional neurologic treatment, and nutritional supplementation

Cold laser therapy provides energy to your body without using tissue-damaging heat. Your cell mitochondria absorbs the infrared light, and this accelerates tissue and damaged nerve healing

Whole body vibration therapy encourages increased lymph fluid and blood circulation by rapid contraction of muscles. It encourages increased nerve activity through skin receptors called Pacinian and Meissners corpuscles. Vibration has been demonstrated to increase osteoblast cell activity, which in turn increases bone mineral density

A Stockbridge Georgia Chiropractic doctor can use Infrared Light Therapy to increase circulation of oxygen and blood to nerves, which helps to reduce inflammation and also increase recovery rate for damaged nerves

Stenosis or herniation of the disc can cause pressure on the nerves or spinal cord, causing nerve compression which leads to peripheral neuropathy. A chiropractor will perform non-surgical spinal decompression by using a machine which gently stretches the spine, causing a vacuum to form inside the disc which reduces compression on the nerves

Nutritional therapy has the goal of normalizing your body chemistry through diet changes such as eliminating any food you’re sensitive to, adding healthier food to your diet, and employing nutritional supplements

A Stockbridge Georgia Chiropractic office can provide patients with instructions for home care therapies. This includes thermal contrast therapy, myofascial mobilization, nerve stimulation, and sensory motor coordination

Banned film ‘The Profit’ appears on Web

Sunday, March 23, 2008

Copies of The Profit, a 2001 film blocked from distribution in the United States due to a court injunction won by the Church of Scientology, appeared on the Internet Friday on peer-to-peer file-sharing websites and on the video sharing site YouTube.

Directed by former film executive Peter N. Alexander, the movie has been characterized by critics as a parody of Scientology and of its founder L. Ron Hubbard. Alexander was a Scientologist for twenty years, and left the organization in 1997. The film was funded by Bob Minton, a former critic of Scientology who later signed an agreement with the Church of Scientology and has attempted to stop distribution of the film. Alexander has stated that the movie is based on his research into cults, and when asked by the St. Petersburg Times about parallels to Scientology and L. Ron Hubbard said: “I’ll let you draw that conclusion … I say it’s entirely fictional.”

The film was released in August 2001, and was shown at a movie theatre in Clearwater, Florida and at a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France. A Scientology spokesman gave a statement at the time saying “the movie is fiction and has nothing to do with Scientology”. The Church of Scientology later took legal action in an attempt to stop further distribution of the film. The Church of Scientology claimed that the film was intended to influence the jury pool in the wrongful death case of Scientologist Lisa McPherson, who died under Scientology care in Clearwater, Florida.

In April 2002, a Pinellas County, Florida judge issued a court order enjoining The Profit from worldwide distribution for an indefinite period. According to the original court injunction received by Wikinews, the movie was originally banned because the court found that it could be seen as a parody of Scientology. In his April 20, 2002 ruling on the injunction, Judge Robert E. Beach of the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court in Pinellas County, Florida wrote: “…an average person viewing the film entitled The Profit could perceive that it is a parody of the Church of Scientology”.

“To the extent that any person considered as a potential juror in evaluating any issues involving the Church of Scientology, the process of voir dire provides a fair and complete remedy to eliminate any potential juror that may possibly have been influenced to be less than fair and impartial,” added Beach.

Luke Lirot, the attorney for the film’s production company, announced on the film’s website on April 7, 2007 that “We have absolutely no exposure for any repercussions from the court order,” but that the film was still blocked from distribution due to an ongoing legal battle. Lirot wrote: “all that’s stopping the release of the movie is the legal battle with the partner who was compromised by Scientology (Robert Minton) and is currently using his power as partner to stop the release of the film.”

In an October 2007 article, The Times described the film as “banned in the US because of a lawsuit taken out against it by The Church of Scientology,” and Russ Kick’s The Disinformation Book of Lists included the film in his “List of 16 Movies Banned in the U.S.”. An 8-minute teaser segment from The Profit appeared on the film’s website and on the video sharing site YouTube in February 2008, and an attorney representing Bob Minton sent a letter to Luke Lirot requesting that the film clip be taken down. In a response letter, Lirot wrote that “Rather than damage any asset of the LLC, the short clip merely keeps the film in the public eye, and in a positive way.”

On Friday, copies of the film began to circulate on peer-to-peer file-sharing websites and on YouTube. A link related to the film’s appearance on the Internet on the community-based link aggregator website Digg.com had 3,638 “Diggs” – and hit the front page of the site’s Entertainment section on Saturday.

I had nothing to do with this release at all. But I’m happy it’s out there.

On Saturday, Scientology critic and Emmy award-winning journalist Mark Bunker put a streaming version of the film on his website, www.xenutv.com, and encouraged others to watch and discuss the film on a real-time chat channel. In a video posting to YouTube Saturday, Bunker said “I did not do it. I had nothing to do with it … I had nothing to do with this release at all. But I’m happy it’s out there … people are finally having a chance to see it. A lot of people have been curious over the years and there’s been a lot of interest in seeing the film, so finally you can.”

We have all wanted to see this movie that scientology kept hidden away from us. We have all wondered just how damning could this story be that we were banned from watching it.

On the newsgroup alt.religion.scientology, a poster by the username “Alexia Death” commented on the film’s appearance on the Internet in the context of censorship: “It is out! And so it is a WIN if many people review it even if they say it SUCKS! … Being bad is no cause to allow censorship … And being censored is no cause to assume its good”. A post to the blog Blogsreel commented: “We have all wanted to see this movie that scientology kept hidden away from us. We have all wondered just how damning could this story be that we were banned from watching it.”

In a post on Sunday to the message board attached to the official website for the film, attorney Luke Lirot asked that individuals stop distributing copies of The Profit over the Internet. Lirot wrote: “It has been brought to my attention that several unauthorized transmissions and downloads of this protected work have taken place over the last 72 hours. Such actions are copyright violations and are unlawful. I request that any further distribution and/or dissemination of this important work cease immediately and any copies of the work that have been downloaded please be deleted.” In his statement, Lirot recognized the rights of individuals under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, but also said that unauthorized distribution of the film “will only serve to harm the goal of vast distribution”.

Blog postings have attributed the film’s appearance on the Internet as part of the anti-Scientology movement Project Chanology organized by the Internet-based group Anonymous, but this has not been confirmed. Wikinews previously reported on international protests against Scientology which took place as part of Project Chanology on February 10 and March 15. A third international protest by Anonymous is scheduled for April 12. Titled “Operation Reconnect”, the third international protest will focus on highlighting Scientology’s practice of disconnection.
